Grade 12 College English
Grade 12 College English (ENG4C) emphasizes the consolidation of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. Students will analyze a range of challenging literary texts from various periods, countries, and cultures; interpret and evaluate informational and graphic texts; and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms. An important focus will be on using academic language coherently and confidently, selecting the reading strategies best suited to particular texts and particular purposes for reading, and developing greater control in writing. The course is intended to prepare students for university, college, or the workplace. College preparation courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to meet the requirements for entrance to most college programs or for admission to a specific apprenticeship or other training programs.
GRADE 12 ENVIRONMENT RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Grade 12 Environment and Resource Management encourages students to investigate the interactions between natural and human systems, placing particular emphasis on the impacts of human activity on ecosystems and natural processes. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to use their knowledge of geographic concepts and spatial skills to analyse these impacts and propose ways of reducing them. Through the various units of this course, students will: assess resource management and sustainability practices, including related government policies and international accords; consider questions of individual responsibility and environmental stewardship; and explore various ways of developing a more sustainable relationship with their environment.
Grade 5 Science and Technology (Ontario Curriculum)
Science is a way of knowing which seeks to describe and explain the natural and physical world. An important aspect is making connections between skills and concepts, and the practical applications of science and technology, and learning about life systems, matter and energy, structures and mechanisms, and Earth and space systems. Students develop important scientific literacy and technological skills that will enable them to thrive in today's rapidly changing world, their future professional and personal lives, and to become active problem solvers in their communities. As students engage in STEM education, they develop transferrable skills that they need to meet the demands of today's global economy and society, and to become scientifically and technologically literate citizens.
